| Finland's Hannu Helinen overcame an opening ride 3rd place to go through the rest of the meeting unbeaten and claim the title by a 2-point margin. With last year's champion Steen Eriksen and 3rd placed Rudi Juritzen having crashed out of this year's competition at the Semi Final stage the field had a different look about it, in fact Sven Svensson, 2nd last season, was the only GP rider in the field but he made a slow start and never looked like challenging the leaders. Former Scandinavian Champion Olle Bjorn Thoresen beat Jens Prydtz to decide the other rostrum places. In addition to the top 3 the qualifiers went all the way down to Wallborg Matsdotter in 11th, with 10 places up for grabs. As always with these meetings there are hard-luck stories and they belonged to Eric Bjork and Victor Henriksen. Bjork was highly fancied and started solidly but a couple of falls clearly knocked him and he finished 3 points short of Matsdotter to crash out of the chase for a GP series place. Henriksen wasn't tipped to challenge and had started with 2 blanks riders but had picked up 5 points to go into heat 19 with a real chance of causing an upset - it was a tough looking heat but he never got the chance to find out if he could get the point or two he needed to have a chance of qualifying when his bike gave up the ghost on the start line, meaning he finished a point short of the qualifying bunch. |
