WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL

England and New Zealand started this meeting as favourites to progress and did so with very few concerns, Hayden Wood and Fillippe Chong showing their world class by leading the way for each respectively.  There was something of a shock behind them though as Hannu Helinen and Ila Niemi turned in a fine pairs display to take 3rd and qualify for the final.  They headed Poland by just a single point, the Poles relying too heavily on Kryznowek in the early stages and not brining in Irzyk until it was too late to make enough difference.  Norway would also have hoped to qualify but couldn't give enough support to Thoresen, whilst hosts Germany had a similar issue in not having a rider to match the scoring power of Benkarth.  Slovenia were always outsiders but their task was made virtually impossible when Petr Verner took a knock in his first ride and was forced to withdraw leaving Keglovits and Zechy to fight an uphill battle.

WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL

There were 4 standout favourites in this Semi Final and all of them qualified for the World Final.  Kenni Algreen was outstanding in leading Denmark to 1st place, following a first ride engine failure, and the top 4 were separated by just a single point - Gote Nordvall outstanding for Sweden and Tyler Tebby and Rickie Keyse turning in a quality display as a pair.  The Czech Republic ended in 4th, top man Tibor Nemecek losing a run-off for an automatic qualifying place, but they outscored Poland, who finished 4th in the other semi final, to mean they progress to the next stage.  For the Czechs the decision to bring in reserve Gavenda for the inconsistent Stajner was to prove vital.  Canada put up a brave fight but didn't have an outstanding performer whilst Bulgaria suffered a blow when Dimotrov, who had won his first heat, took a knock with reserve Hristov unable to match the scoring they would have expected from their first choice man.  Hosts Belgium couldn't provide a heat winner all afternoon and never threatened the top side, although Joossens battled strong, being paid for double figures.
